The effects of iron and zinc on cognitive, motor and behavioral development are on children is scientifically accepted and concentrates on the more recent work, some previous work and areas of controversy. There are well established associations with poor development and iron and zinc deficiency in food source but the deficiencies usually occur in disadvantaged circumstances and establishing causal relationships is not easy. The health and well being of children depend upon the interaction between their genetic potential and exogenous factors like adequacy of nutrition, safety of the environment, social interaction and other childhood activity. Both proteins-energy malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies increase the risk of death from common diseases such as acute gastroenteritis, pneumonia and measles. Iron deficiency anemia, for example, is estimated to affect almost 25% of the world’s population resulting in high economic cost by adding to the burden on health care services, affecting learning in school. Dietary practices frequently seen in children from both developed and developing countries, leading to frequent consumption of nutrient poor foods, may also put them at risk of micronutrient deficiencies.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the deadliest disease in Bangladesh as its complications are enormous and life threatening. This study demonstrates the prevalence of the complications of type 2 diabetes among the population of Bangladesh. Data of 1000 subjects admitted into BIRDEM General Hospital from May 2015 to April 2016 were taken into consideration. Significantly, it was found that 89% patients had fasting blood glucose (FBG) level greater than 7 mmol/l and 70.8% patients had glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level greater than 8%. As a consequence, the total population were affected by diverse health complications including lung, liver, cardiovascular, kidney, brain, oral, eye, thyroid, hearing, skin, and so on. Males and females were suffered from these complications without biasedness.

An ethnomedicinal survey was carried out in district Poncokusumo, Malang, East Java Province, Indonesia for documentation of important plants diversity and information from local society. The indigenous knowledge of traditional local societywas collected throught structural and open indept interview, direct observation and personal interviews during the research. To better acessesto the extractive activities and the utilization of the plant diversity by indigenous people. Plants with their correct nomenclature were arranged by vernacular name, family name, parts used, ethnomedicinal remedies and ethnomedical use. The determination and nomenclature of the listed plants were based on the Flora of Java.A Total of 181species plants (68 family) determinate of Tengger and Java people existing in the region. Family ethnomedicine plants that have large members includes Umbelliferae (3 species), Apocynaceae (4 species), Gramineae (6 species), Myrtaceae (7 species), Euphorbiaceae (8 species), Fabaceae (10 species), Zingiberaceae (10 species), Solanaceae (12 species) and Asteraceae (15 species).The number of plants used to treat more than 60 diseases. The treatment done by a medicine man or shaman from Tengger people by ritual treatment with called “Suwuk”.

This study was selected to find out the bacterial pathogens in egg yolk, egg shell, feed and air samples of poultry houses at Dinajpur district in Bangladesh with isolation, identification and characterization of bacterial pathogens present in those samples. For this study, a total of 147 samples comprising egg shell (36), egg yolk (36), feed (45) and air (30) were collected during the period from January to May, 2012 and the collected samples were then examined for the bacteriological study by using cultural, morphological and biochemical techniques. On the basis of their cultural, morphological and biochemical properties the isolated organisms were identified as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp., Salmonella serovars and Bacillus spp. In this study it was observed that out of 147 samples a total of 51 were identified as bacterial pathogens in which egg shell containing 10 (27.78%), egg yolk 11 (30.56%), feed 20 (44.44%) and air 10 (33.33%) respectively. In this study it was also observed that the highest prevalence of bacterial pathogens in feed samples (44.44%) in comparison with egg shell (27.78%), egg yolk (30.56%) and air samples (33.33%). In this study it was demonstrated that out of four (04) pathogens Escherichia coli was more abundant (39.21%) in the layer house and its environment in comparison with Staphylococcus spp. (25.49%), Salmonella (23.52%) and Bacillus spp. (11.76%) respectively.

Coastal women are the most socio-economically disadvantaged clusters with low literacy and deprived economic and living conditions. The study aims at measuring contraception and unmet need for contraceptive need among married women in the reproductive age group. A cross-sectional study was carried out among222 married women of in a coastal area of Bangladesh. The majority of the respondents (33.8%) were 31 years and above with mean (± SD) age at marriage was 16.2 ± 2.3 years. Most (85.6%) of the study sample were housewives and maximum (84.7%) were literate. About half (50.9%) of them belongs to the single family and about two-thirds (60.4%) monthly family income between 5000 and 10000 Taka. The mean age of women at marriage was 16.2± 2.2 SD, out of which, about two third (63.9%) experienced marriage below 18 years. The average number of pregnancies was 1.9 ± 1.0 SD, out of which, 39.6% experienced two pregnancies. The current contraceptive prevalence rate among married women was 80.2%. The prevalence of unmet need for family planning was 13.5%. The major reason for non-use of contraception among women with unmet need was the husband’s opposition.

 A comparative agronomical trial was conducted to know the effect of two different soil types on growth and production performance of BLRI Napier-4 fodder production at BLRI regional station, Baghabari, Shahzadpur, Sirajganj. Soil components are the determinant factors for growing any crops or fodders. Soil samples from sandy soil and normal soil (loamy) were analazed for soil pH, nitrogen, organic matter, salinity, Ca, K, S, Zn, Pb, Co, Mg, Fe etc. at the Central Laboratory of Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI), Dhaka. Data were recorded on plant height, stem length, leaf length, number of leaf per stem, number of till per hill, yield per hill and total biomass yield per plot. Plant height, stem length and leaf length produced in normal soil were significantly higher (p<0.001) than those produced in sandy soil. Irrespective of soil type, the plant height, stem length, leaf length, yield per hill and biomass yield per plot produced in second harvest were significantly higher (p<0.001) than those produced in first harvest. But, number of leaf per stem and number of till per hill did not differ significantly (p>0.05) between two cuttings. It can be concluded from the present findings that BLRI Napier-4 cultivar may be produced in the sandy soil.

The present study was conducted at milk pocket areas Sahjadpur Upazila under Sirajgonj district and Shathia and Bera Upazila under the Pabna district, respectively. A total number of one hundred ninety (190) dairy farmers were surveyed randomly selecting twenty farmers from each village. All data collected were statistically analyzed using Univariate General Linear Model (GLM) procedure of SPSS computer program. Lack of balanced feed was the highest cause of repeat breeding claimed by about sixty (60%) percent farmers in this study. The highest incidence of RB was obtained in LocalHolstein Friesian crosses (69%) and lowest in LocalSahiwal crosses (8%). From the study of present findings; it can be concluded that genotype, nutrient of feed, quality of semen, frequency of insemination and reproductive problems are the main possible causes for RB in the studied areas.

The aim of this research was evaluation of dahi prepared from cow and buffalo skim milk addition of mango juice. Four types of dahi were prepared from cow’s and buffalo’s skim milk which designated by A (cows skim milk), B (cows skim milk with 10% mango juice), C (buffalo’s skim milk) and D (buffalo’s skim milk with 10% mango juice). The quality of prepared dahi was measured by organoleptic, chemical and microbiological test. Smell and taste, body and consistency, colour and texture score of dahi improved due to adding mango juice to compare with their control group. The overall acceptability score of B and D sample were 85.67±1.53 and 81.67±4.04 which higher than both control group. From chemical analysis, it was found higher total solids in 10% mango juice containing B (202.0±0.20 g/kg) and D (196.0±0.49 g/kg) dahi samples than both control groups. Again, lower fat and protein contents found in 10% mango juice containing B and D dahi samples. Total viable count was found significantly higher in both 10% mango juice containing B and D dahi samples than both control groups. In conclusion, that addition of mango juice with cow’s skim milk dahi or buffalo skim milk dahi were both better in terms of organoleptic and chemical qualities more acceptable than plain skim milk dahi.

Freshwater aquaculture is by far the most ancient aquatic living resource production system known in the world. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the growth performance of prawn and tilapia (male) under different sex (male and female) contribution of prawn in polyculture ponds for a period of four months from September 2010 to December 2010. The experiment was designed with 3 treatments like T₁ (All male Tilapia– 4938/ha + All male Prawn 19,753/ha), T₂ (All male Tilapia – 4938 / ha + All female Prawn 19,753/ha) and T₃ (All male Tilapia – 4938/ decimal + all male Prawn 19876 + all female prawn 19876/ha), each with 2 replications. The mean stocking weight of prawn was 2.87 g and that of tilapia was 37.36 g. Total stocking density of prawn and tilapia (24,691/ha), basal fertilization (Cowdung 2470kg/ha, Urea 50kg/ha and TSP 50kg/ha), periodic fertilization (Cowdung 50kg/ha/day, urea 1.25kg/ha/day and TSP 1.25kg/ha/day) and feeding regime (diet containing 30% protein level at the rate of 2-5% of prawn and fish body weight twice daily) were same for all the treatments. Water quality parameters (water temperature, transparency, dissolved oxygen, pH, NH₃-N and alkalinity) were monitored fortnightly and the growth parameters were monitored monthly. Mean values of water quality parameters were found within the suitable range. Treatment T₁ varied more significantly (P<0.05) than that of others for the mean values of growth parameters (final weight, weight gain, SGR, survival rate and yield) of prawn and tilapia.

This cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the lung function status and socio-demographic profile of the tobacco workers. The study place was “Akij Tobacco Industry” which is situated in Sharsa Upazila under Jessore District of Bangladesh. The period of the study extending from January to December 2014. Tobacco worker who had worked in Akij Tobacco Industry, both male and female and working period more than one year. The total sample size was 203 and simple random sampling was done to select the workers on the basis of their identification number. Data were collected through face to face interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire and lung function status measured by the spirometer. About one-third (34.0%) of the workers was in the age group 40-60 years and mean age were35.8 ± 0.2 years. Of them the majority (54.1%) were male, 89.2% were married, and 48.3% were illiterate. More than half (53.2%) of the worker from the joint family and maximum (53.7%) respondents were in the income group 5000-10000 taka, 39.4% of the worker lived in katcha house and 95.5% were using the sanitary latrine. Approximately half (49.7%) of workers were working for more than 10 years and 66.5% of the workers were working daily for 6-8 hours. More than half (52.7%) of the workers were consuming tobacco product in which 62.3% used to smoke and 31.1% exposed to smokeless tobacco. The mean ± SD forced vital capacity in the 1^st second (FEV1) was 2.25 ± 0.12 whereas forced vital capacity (FVC) was 2.59 ± 0.27 and the FEV1/FVC ratio was 87.16 ± 4.91.There was no significant (p>0.05) difference between male and female in their lung function status. There was a significant difference (p<0.05) was found between in mean score of FEV1/FVC ratio and the total working period. From the public health point of view, preventive measures need to be taken to control the dusty environment and wearing of personal protective masks.

This study evaluated the effect of ginger on the growth performance, carcass quality of broiler chickens. 20 broiler chickens were randomly selected into two treatment groups identified as T1 and T2 with a positive control and a negative control group. Each treatment contained with five birds. Birds on T1 were treated with 1% ginger extract and T2 was treated with 2% ginger extract via drinking water. Significant variations (p<0.05) existed between the control and other treatments in mean final body weight, dressed weight, daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio. At the end of experiment (35^th day) for 1% ginger extraction treatment the live body weight is 1746gm (p<0.05), dressing weight 1106.4 (p<0.05) and FCR is 1.67(p<0.05). The usage of the test ingredients had a significant effect (p<0.05) on dressing percentage. Supplementation of ginger improves the performance of broilers when added at the rate of 1% of broiler ration and can be a possible alternative to antibiotic growth promoter in the feeding of broiler chicken.

The present study was designed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of polyherbal aerosol spray - Topicure^® Plus against maggot infested wounds in sheep. Two sheep presented at Vellore Veterinary Dispensary with a history of maggot infested wound were selected. Based on the severity of wound, antibiotics (Ampicillin - 10 mg/kg body weight) and NSAIDs (Meloxicam - 0.5 mg/kg body weight on 1^st day) were administered. The site of wound was clipped off the hair and cleaned with sterile saline solution and wiped with dry sterile cotton on first day of the treatment. Then Topicure^® Plus was sprayed in sufficient quantities to cover the entire wound twice daily till complete healing of wound occurs. When Topicure^® Plus spray was administered concurrent local treatment with other fly repellents/maggoticidal agents was not followed. Wound was observed for the changes in swelling, discharge, granulation tissue and wound healing process following the treatment till complete recovery. Similarly, fly repellent activity and duration, maggot repellent property, activity level and product satisfaction score were also recorded. The results indicate that Topicure^® Plus had ensured faster wound healing (within 8 days) which is evident through reduction in pain, swelling, discharge and granulation tissue score along with superior fly repellent activity and duration, maggot repellent property. Therefore, it appears from the present study that treatment of myiasis wound with Topicure^® Plus spray along with antibiotic regime was the most effective in field conditions as it avoids the day to day manual removal of maggots and induces the faster wound healing.

Efficient and accurate detection of estrus and correct time of artificial insemination are essential for sustainable dairy farms. Therefore, this study was carried out to monitor oestrus by observing vaginal electrical impedance (VEI) in post-partum cows. Eighteen cows with 19-139 post-partum days were included for this study.  Daily VEI values were measured with heat detector^®. Lower vaginal electrical resistance (VER) values were recorded during oestrus. VER of 210-240 Ω might be indicative for oestrus in cows. The day difference between two successive lower values or higher values in “VER waves” ranged from 18 to 22 days in cows which might indicates the oestrous cycle length. Marked variation existed between VER values of two successive peaks in pregnant and non-pregnant cows, and increased (P < 0.05) VER values were observed in 2^ndpeak in pregnant cows. VER of 320-370 Ω at 19-22 days after AI could be considered for early pregnancy. The study suggests that the measurement of vaginal impedance could serve as an indicator of the oestrus in cows and daily impedance measurements are necessary to confirm the stages of the estrous cycle, correct time of AI and early pregnancy.

This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) leaves extract as a growth promoter in broilers from January to June 2013 under Dept. of Pharmacology, Bangladesh agricultural University, Mymensingh-2022, Bangladesh. Fourty number of day old broiler chicks were taken and after seven days divided into two groups A and B. The B group was supplemented with tulsi leaves extract @ 1ml/litre in drinking water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain up to 5^th weeks and blood test was performed at 17^th and 35^th days age of broiler to study hematological changes between control A and treatment B group. No significant difference in hematological changes was observed in both treatment and control group in 1^st week of age but significant change in body weight gain was observed on 35^th day. They are 1500 g (control) and 1650 g (treated). The cost of production and economic study was carried out and it was observed that net profit in control group was 5.33 T.K/Kg broiler and in treatment group was 13.33 T.K/Kg broiler. Bacterial sensitivity test was positive in case of Escherichia coli and produced zone of inhibition 0.5 cm and other was negative.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of dietary probiotics on broiler growth performance, organ development and meat quality in replacing oxytetracycline. Dietary treatments were control (basal diet without additives), antibiotic (basal diet with 0.05% oxytetracycline), basal diet with Bacillus subtilis and basal diet with Lactobacillus spp. A total of 192 birds were randomly allotted to four dietary treatments with four replicates having 12 birds each. Feed and water were supplied ad libitum. The results of the current study revealed that growth performances of broiler did not show significant difference (P>0.05) among the treatments. Body weight and weight gain were numerically higher and FCR was numerically lower in broilers fed a diet containing 2 different single strains of probiotic than control. Though there were no treatment effects (P>0.05) on the weights of the liver, heart, kidney, spleen, gizzard, intestine and dressing percentage, but abdominal fat content was found significantly higher (P<0.05) in antibiotic treated group than that of single strain probiotic (Lactobacillus spp.) feeding group. Significant differences were also observed in meat color values where antibiotic fed broiler meat showed higher redness, lower lightness and yellowness and birds fed the control feed had higher lightness and yellowness of meat than probiotic fed chicken. TBA, P^H and cooking loss were not affected by the treatments. Therefore, we concluded that use of selected probiotics resulted in improved performance parameters and reduced abdominal fat pad in broiler chickens. Moreover, addition of the probiotics in broiler diet for replacing antibiotic could be utilized for safe poultry meat production.

A study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary moringa leaf meal (MLM) as a natural alternative to antibiotic on the growth performance, meat quality and carcass yield of broiler chicken. A total of 270 day-old broiler chicks were randomly weighed and assigned to six dietary treatments having 45 birds in each. Each dietary treatment had three replicates of 15 birds and was reared in floor pens. Chicks were distributed in 4 different inclusion levels of MLM in diets; 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% with 2 control diets negative and positive. The birds were fed the experimental diets and water was provided without restriction throughout the experimental period. The results showed that significant (P<0.05) effect on final body weight and weight gain in dietary supplementation of 1.5% MLM as compared to that of control group. Better feed conversion (1.53) was observed at 1.5% MLM group. Different levels of MLM exhibit significant influence on meat yield performance of broilers. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) observed among the average live weight, thigh meat, wing meat, drumstick meat, gizzard and abdominal fat of broilers. Breast meat, heart, liver, large intestine and dressing percentage showed significant difference. Lower mortality was found on diet supplemented with MLM. It is concluded that 1.5% MLM in broiler diets can be used as natural feed additive for enhancing growth performance, organ development, meat yield and serum cholesterol of broilers as well as replacing of oxytetracycline.

Ruminant livestock is one of the key elementsfor the agriculture-based economy of Bangladesh, although these animals are often condemned as a source greenhouse gas especially methane (CH4).Total methane emission from the enteric fermentation of ruminants in Bangladesh considering Gazipur, Tangail and Mymensingh district is reflected in the output of the present study. The emission was measured using the dry matter intake (DMI) approach based on the total population of ruminants. Feed intake was recorded from on-farm observation and/or farmers records. It was observed that the ration supplied to bovines consisted of 50-60% green roughage, 31-41% rice straw, and 4-10% concentrate mixture. In terms of DMI rice straw has been contributed the highest (51-65%) proportions followed by green forage (24-31%) and concentrate mixture (7-17%). In small ruminant ration, 90-95% feed (DMI 75-86%) was supplied from green grasses and remaining from concentrate mixtures. Although buffalo individually irrespective of sex and age emitted highest amount of methane followed crossbred and indigenous cattle, goat and sheep, the males produced a higher amount of methane than those of female in all species. Total methane emission in Gazipur, Tangail, and Mymensingh districts were 13359.15, 13250.65 and 13653.75 Kg/day and 4876.11, 4836.50 and 4983.62 „000‟Kg/year, respectively. In total 848,320 Kg/day and 309,630 “000”Kg/year methane was measured to be emitted in Bangladesh by 56.33 million ruminant livestock where 64.79% had come from indigenous cattle followed by crossbreed cattle (20.82%), Goat (8.79%), Buffalo (5.17%) and sheep (0.43%).

This study was conducted to investigate the pathoprevalence of different infectious diseases of goat at Sadar upazilla of Dinajpur district in Bangladesh. Infectious cases were recorded with respect to breed, sex, age and season from Upazilla Veterinary Hospital and District Veterinary Hospital, Sadar, Dinajpur during July, 2014 to June, 2015 and diagnosis was made on the basis of clinical history, clinical examinations and common laboratory techniques with histopathological examination. A total of 2139 infectious diseases were founded and categorized by the causal agents where the highest prevalence was observed in mixed infectious diseases (46.06%) followed by viral diseases (28.93%), internal parasitic diseases (9.77%), external parasitic diseases (8.42%), bacterial diseases (3.00%), protozoal diseases (2.01%) and lowest was in fungal diseases (1.83%). The prevalence of infectious disease was significantly higher at Jamunapari (55.12%) than Black Bengal (44.88%). Female goats were more susceptible (54.32%) than male (45.68%). The prevalence was varied according to age and highest was in G-1 (45.48%) followed by G-2 (36.48%) and G-3 (17.68%). Summer season (33.60%) was common for infections followed by winter (33.51%) and rainy (32.89%). Most of the internal lesions were produced by the endoparasitic infections which were examined microscopically. These results indicate that, the prevalence of various infectious diseases in the goats was higher at Sadar, Dinajpur thus, there is a need for an appropriate control measures in order to prevent and minimize the loss caused by such diseases and this study may help to develop strategies against the infectious diseases of goat.

The study was carried out to quantify the purity of different marketed brands of three insecticide namely diazinon, acephate and cypermethrin using suitable protocols GC-FID and GC-ECD. Nineteen marketed brands of these insecticides collected from retailers of Jessore, Gazipur and Rangpur region were analyzed and estimated their purity in two seasons of 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. Among six marketed brands of diazinon, only one brand (RSN) had 96.71-100% purity in both the seasons in all locations which considered to be standard product, but four brands (DZN, SBN, HZN, DNN) in other regions, contained <95% pure which were substandard product. The remaining 2 brands (DNN, AZN) contained 33.71-51.94% purity in 2006-07 and the other two brands (SBN, DZN) had very small amount of active ingredient (0.16-0.84% purity) in 2007-08 and all these were impure in quality. All five tested brands of acephate had 57.14-88.59% purity in 2006-07 which were substandard but in 2007-08, three brands (SNT, BNS, ATF) showed >90% purity and the remaining 2 had <80% purity which were less AI than required. Of eight tested brands of cypermethrin, three brands were almost to have >95% pure in 2006-07 in all locations. The other two brands (CPR, AMT) contained >90% purity. In 2007-08, two brands of cypermethrin (RCD, SCR) contained >95% pure, another two brand (CRN, RLT) had 88.77-91.15% purity. The brands UTD was standard in purity in 2006-07 but this brand was below standard in quality in 2007-08 in all locations. Most of the tested brands of cypermethrin were found standard and sub standard level of purity in comparison to diazinon and acephate.

Despite having number of health benefits, yoga also has a proven role in enhancing performance of athletes boosting specific components of fitness. Our aim was to study the effect of yoga on flexibility and balance among shooting trainee athletes at BKSP, Bangladesh. A quasi-experimental study was conducted among shooting trainee athletes. In total 20 athletes took part in this study. In each group we had 10 participants (10 in yoga group and other 10 in non-yoga group). Regular yoga session have been conducted early morning biweekly over a period of six weeks. All the participants were allowed to take part in regular training session, while only yoga group took part in additional yoga session. Measurements of flexibility and balance including Sit and Reach (SR) test and Stork Stand (SR) test were taken immediately before and after the yoga training period. Independent t-test and paired t-test were used to determine the significant effect of yoga within and between the groups before and after yoga training. Sixty percent of our participants were male. Participant’s age were between 12-17 years. All of them had normal level of BMI. Significant improvement were observed in the yoga group for flexibility (SR, P=0.017) and balance (SS, P=0.004) during within group comparison. No significant improvement were seen for flexibility and balance in the non-yoga group. Between group comparison (Yoga and Non-yoga) also shows significant enhancement in both flexibility (SR, P=0.018) and balance (SS, P=0.021).Our findings helped us to conclude that regular yoga training may improve the balance and flexibility of shooting athletes even within short period of time (6 weeks), can also improve the athletic performances that demands high flexibility and balance.

Caesarean Section is a surgical procedure in which an incision is given through the abdominal wall and uterus in order to deliver fetus. It is also known as C-section is one of the most challenging surgical procedures in case of dystocia to save fetus live. A 6 years old HF cross breed cow, weighing 300 kg was admitted to the Teaching Veterinary Hospital (TVH), Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) with a history of prolonged labour pain. At first all the physical examination was done. Blood sample was collected to know different parameters of serum and blood. As Per vaginal examination revealed incomplete dilation of cervix. Then, it was decided and performed caesarean section using left oblique laparotomy and a live female fetus was delivered. Post operative care was taken for 10 days. The cow recovered successfully without any complications. The cow was followed for next one year. 70 days after surgery, she came to heat and after insemination pregnancy was confirmed at 35 days post AI. The cow had successful pregnancy which was confirmed by rectal palpation at 35 days. Caesarean section through left flank oblique laparotomy is an effective method of resolving dystocia to save cow with fetus.

The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of broiler and layer diseases at Gazipur sadar upazilla veterinary hospital in Bangladesh. A total of 296 either dead or sick birds were considered for the present study. Diagnosis of different diseases was made on the basis of history, owner’s complains, age of birds, presenting signs, clinical and necropsy examination findings. The prevalence of diseases was recorded in broiler (n=189) 63.9% and layer (n=107) 36.1%. In broiler the prevalence of Colibacillosis (33.4%) was higher followed by Omphalitis (23.8%), Infectious Bursal Disease-IBD (15.3%), Newcastle disease-ND (9.0%), mixed infection (7.4%), Gout (5.3%) and Coccidiosis (5.8%). In case of layer highest prevalence was recorded in Salmonellosis (19.6%). while other diseases were Collibacilosis (15.9%), Mycoplasmosis (12.1%), ND (10.3%), IBD (8.4), Mareks (9.3%), mixed infection (8.4%), Fowl Cholera (4.7%) and Mycotoxicosis (4.7%). The present findings will help poultry researchers and practitioner to know the present status of infectious diseases of commercial chickens in the study area and also help to establish flock based control strategy.

The present study was undertaken to update the dairy food composition database of Bangladesh by studying the minerals profile of important milk and milk products. Major minerals such as Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg) and Phosphorus (P) contents of powdered milk, yoghurt, ice cream and raw milk of cows were investigated in this study. The research was conducted at the postgraduate laboratory of Dept. of Agricultural Chemistry, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Na and K content were found by flame spectrophotometry method, Ca and Mg by EDTA titrimetric method and P by UV-visible spectrophotometric determination. One Way ANOVA (with ‘p’ values) was done by using statistical analytical software Stata 12. ANOVA was coupled with Tukey’s test that gives mean separation in case of significant difference among the samples. Concerning mean values, powdered milk contained the highest Na (3138.19 ppm), K (9394.47 ppm), Ca (7615.2 ppm), Mg (891.18 ppm) and P (11332.36 ppm), whereas, the lowest Na (93.09 ppm), K (463.39 ppm) and Ca (1362.72 ppm) were found in raw milk and the lowest Mg (267.35 ppm) and P (1673.99) were found in ice cream. Elemental composition varied significantly from product to product (p<0.05). From this study it could be concluded that major minerals are found highest in powdered milk and lowest in raw milk, whereas, yoghurt and ice cream contained intermediate level of minerals.
