Call for Executive Editor: Asian-Australasian Journal of Bioscience and Biotechnology

Ebu Press Ltd extends an invitation to accomplished individuals for the esteemed position of Executive Editor for the Asian-Australasian Journal of Bioscience and Biotechnology, set to commence in January 2024, succeeding Professor Dr. S. M. Lutful Kabir. The Executive Editor will spearhead the editorial team, overseeing the strategic direction of the journal.

About the Journal

The Asian-Australasian Journal of Bioscience and Biotechnology (AAJBB) stands as a distinguished international scholarly journal dedicated to the exploration of Bioscience and Biotechnology. We actively seek an Executive Editor to collaborate in broadening the journal’s horizons, encompassing diverse facets of Bioscience and Biotechnology research. A global platform, AAJBB welcomes contributions from scholars worldwide, fostering inclusivity. The journal proudly holds indexing in esteemed databases, including BanglaJOL, Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), Crossref, Google Scholar, and JournalSeek. Furthermore, AAJBB is a devoted member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal is currently engaged in formulating robust strategies and policies to secure indexing in prestigious databases such as the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Scopus, and Web of Science (WoS). The incoming Executive Editor will play a pivotal role in executing policies aimed at elevating the journal’s eligibility for inclusion in these databases.

Qualifications

Prospective candidates are expected to possess:

  • A Doctorate (PhD) in Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioscience, or a related field, showcasing expertise in advanced research domains.
  • Previous engagement with international research journals, preferably in editorial capacities such as Regional Editor, Associate Editor, Guest Editor, or similar roles.
  • A distinguished rank of Professor or Associate Professor at a reputable university, signifying leadership and academic excellence.
  • An illustrious history of academic and scholarly achievements, including a track record of teaching, impactful research contributions, and noteworthy scientific publications.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in research design, methodologies, statistical analysis, and a commitment to adherence to research reporting standards within the field of Bioscience and Biotechnology research.
  • Adeptness in critically assessing submitted manuscripts, overseeing the peer review process, making informed editorial judgments, and effectively mediating author rebuttals or disputes.
  • Outstanding organizational skills coupled with effective communication capabilities, encompassing the ability to meet deadlines, showcase adept writing skills, and proficiently engage in presentations and public speaking.
  • Robust interpersonal skills, essential for effective engagement with diverse stakeholder groups and individuals across different career stages.
  • Familiarity with publishing content models and proficiency in navigating web-based manuscript processing systems, a preferred qualification.
  • Demonstrated capability for collaborative teamwork with minimal supervision, coupled with a proven ability to excel as an independent contributor.
  • A strong understanding of the inclusion criteria for prestigious journals such as DOAJ, Scopus, and WoS, underpinning the importance of aligning journal policies with the requirements of indexing databases.
  • Fluency in English, complemented by strong writing abilities.

Executive Editor Role and Responsibilities

The Executive Editor, serving in a voluntary capacity, will be entrusted with the following key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the publisher, and the broader editorial team to meticulously define the journal’s vision and establish priority areas. This involves active participation in strategic discussions and the formulation of long-term objectives.
  • Ensure that every article accepted for publication undergoes a thorough, impartial, and punctual peer review procedure. This entails a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity in the publication process.
  • Serve as a decision-maker, responsible for determining whether submitted materials should be accepted or rejected for potential publication. This involves a judicious evaluation of scientific merit, originality, and relevance, while ensuring a consistent stream of high-quality content.
  • Supervise the Editors and monitor the execution of their designated roles and duties, including the coordination of the peer review process. This requires effective leadership to ensure streamlined operations and adherence to established timelines.
  • Sustain an engaged, highly regarded, and technically proficient Editorial Board comprised of individuals representing a wide range of geographical, demographic, and cultural backgrounds. Additionally, board members should possess multidisciplinary expertise, contributing to the journal’s diversity and depth.
  • Secure the ongoing involvement of the Editorial Board in the journal’s activities by maintaining regular communication. Periodic assessments of board members’ contributions and performance are essential to ensure sustained engagement and effective collaboration.
  • Maintain strict adherence to established benchmarks for exceptional quality and ethical conduct in scholarly publications. Upholding ethical standards is paramount to preserving the integrity of the journal and ensuring the trust of authors, reviewers, and readers.
  • Recruit and retain capable reviewers with diverse fields of expertise to consistently participate in the peer review process. Building a robust reviewer pool ensures thorough and comprehensive evaluations, contributing to the overall quality of the journal’s content.
  • Ensure that the journal’s content is not only valuable to its readership but also fosters growth in terms of journal usage and the number of submissions. Strategic planning and content development are key components in achieving this objective.
  • Establish clear, effective, timely, and courteous communication channels with authors, reviewers, editors, and journal staff. Transparent and open communication is crucial for fostering positive relationships and ensuring a smooth workflow throughout the publication process.
  • Collaborate with editorial and publisher personnel to guarantee the punctual release of journal issues. This involves active participation in the planning and execution of effective marketing strategies, as well as streamlining workflows throughout the production process.
  • Address publication ethics concerns and allegations of misconduct promptly, courteously, and confidentially. This requires a commitment to following established guidelines and best practices, with more serious matters warranting consultation with the journal’s publisher.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Editor to supervise the operations of the editorial office and manage various administrative functions associated with the journal. This encompasses overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the editorial office, managing staff, and ensuring efficient administrative processes.

Term of Service

The selected candidate is anticipated to assume the position of Executive Editor for an initial one-year term, commencing on January 1, 2024.
